Saturday - May 7: Center for Traditional Arts, Lan-Yang Museum, and King Car Whisky Distillery

The National Center for
Traditional Arts (NCTA)

Located on the Dongshang River in Wujie Township, Yilan County, NCTA offers a unique view of Taiwanese culture.

As we pulled up in front, the feeling was like being at the entrance of Cedar Point. there were other ethnic groups taking pictures and the crowd was fairly large.

The Street Parade: Colorful and Entertaining
We purchased tickets for the performance Dream World - which resembled Cirque du Soleil. The strength and endurance of the performers was unbelievable. The Center has become a landmark.
Which rule said No Photography in Auditorium???

Lan-Yang Museum
Our English Tour Guide was Violet G Lin or Violeta. She speaks four languages, has a farm, and volunteers at the museum. I was also introduced to her daughter who also works at the museum, also named Violeta. We had the opportunity to learn about the history and how the mountain and sea blend together. Violeta has two daughters and as a Mom she knew how to speak to our hearts-- she asked if we would like lunch before beginning our tour. Of course we said yes, and the group began the daunting task of trying to stay together and finish in 20 minutes. We did not quite meet the original deadline, but we all finished in record time.

We started with exhibit that looked like rain which symbolized the birth. Another display was an actual retired fishing boat that fishermen used to harpon their catch. There was also a display that depicted the Chinese New Year. the tradition said that on the 7th??? Check out fact al the evil spirits were allowed to be set free. Another display was a boat engine that was copied from the Japanese and then sold to Chinese???check facts.

King Car Whiskey Distillery
King Car has been in the food and beverage industry for over 30 years. When looking for opportunities to grow the company, they saw a need for whiskey. Kavalan Whiskey is the first Taiwanese and a wholly owned subsidiary of King Car. As whiskey consumption rose in Taiwan, the company seized the opportunity for a new venture. Instead of importing the products, the company saw a demand and opportunity for revenue.

We were given a tour of the operations which reminded me of the tour given in the U.S. at wineries or breweries. The tour ended with a taste test and walk thru the gift shop.
